Saturday saw Hull RUFC playing some of their best rugby of the season. The interesting thing is that the penalty count of around 2-1 in Hull’s favour and a dominant scrum and overall efficient line out were much the same as last week in game Hull lost.
Why such different results?
Hull had a few changes to the side and the returning Paulos Latu in the second row and Jamie Shaul on the wing and scrum half Harvey Harding were all highly influential in Hull’s biggest points haul for a long time.
All the forwards including those coming on in the second period had good games. Liam Regardsoe was not only forceful going forward but did well in the lineout, tackled well including one great cover tackle to snuff out a Huddersfield attack.
Evi Uriburu-Gray fitted in well at number eight taking the ball forward while Alec Renouf caught the eye as a non-stop worker at open side flanker.
Hull’s front row of effectively four players over the full 80 minutes, had the edge on their opponents and claimed penalties at quite a few scrums.
Reece Dean orchestrated the attack really well and kept the score ticking over with his goal kicking.
The whole side worked as a unit and took their scoring chances. They got the details right .
This week’s test will be much harder, but if Hull can play like that against Leeds the visitors from the west Riding will know they have been in a game.
