Hull Hit 60 In Huddersfield Rout

A high scoring game between two sides looking for a win to ease up the table saw Hull run out convincing 60-26 winners despite a late comeback by a gritty Huddersfield side.

Hull were soon on the scoreboard when a powerful scrum was stopped illegally as Hull surged over the line for a penalty try after just seven minutes.

The home side then dominated the first half with well worked tries from full back Harrison Astley after 23 minutes converted by off half Reece Dean.

Dean then kicked a penalty after 31 minutes to make it 17-0. Three minutes later centre Ali Heard brushed off three tacklers to put scrum half James Naylor in for a try converted by Dean.

Hull’s fourth try of the half came from a quick tap penalty that was finished with centre Peter Hudson-Kowalewicz who touched down near the posts with Dean adding the conversion right on half time to make it 31-0

The second period was a frantic affair with Huddersfield scoring straight way through second row man Lewis Quinn after good pressure. Hull then took control once more to score four times in nine minutes.

A try by full back Astley came after good work at the lineout saw Hull just five metres short and a good pass from Naylor saw him touchdown in the right hand corner for an unconverted try.

Three minutes later, excellent handling saw Jamie Shaul take the ball from an inside pass and outpace the defence for a good try converted by Dean after 54 minutes.

Two minutes later, a thunderous break by back row man David Halaifonua saw him link with second row Paulos Latu for an unconverted try after 56 minutes.

Moments later a lineout saw Hull power forward and prop Charlie Beech got the touchdown for an unconverted try. Not to be left lout Huddersfield scored a try through full back Workman who converted his own try after 69 minutes.

Hull responded almost immediately with another try which covered 70 yards in the build up with Hull’s leading try scorer Hudson-Kowalewicz touching down with Dean adding the conversion after 73 minutes.

Huddersfield hit back late and with just 14 fit players left, they scored two well taken tries from Walker and Pearson with Workman adding on conversion to secure a losing bonus point for the visitors and leave the final score 60-26.
