Hull resume their fixtures with the rearranged match with Fylde that was postponed due to hard frosts in November. In terms of results, both sides have the same symmetry with 6 wins and 6 losses with one drawn game.
However Fylde have had a good few more bonus points than Hull and sit four places above Hull who are ninth place. Their recent record includes a convincing victory over Hull Ionians and a loss by one point to Wharfedale would suggest that they will be a tough nut to crack.
Hull had a few injuries in the dramatic victory at Hull Ionians and Harry Gunn-McLean has not recovered to take his place on the wing, but Jamie Shaul has bounced back from his injury to play on his wing.
Harrison Astley will start as the other winger where he has played well before his own injury saw him sidelined. James Naylor who impressed on his first outing for the club returns at scrum half with David Davison and Joey Barratt covering the backs from the bench.
The pack is the same as that which took the field at Hull Ionians with Alec Renouf getting the chance to play at open side again. Will Hall is another player who has made the most of the Christmas break to regain fitness after a knock just before Christmas.
The front five who have worked tirelessly all season, are looking to build on their efforts as their success is a key element to the side’s success. The starting line up for the front row of Major, Jobling and Bairstow backed up by solid second rowers Billy Addy and Liam Regardsoe are backed up by the highly influential prop Charlie Beech and second rower Kim Russell on the bench and should be able to give Fylde something to think about.
Fylde are showing signs of improvement helped by the inclusion of one or two top class loan players who add that little extra to their side.
In a league where standards are very similar apart from the top two, the side that get all the little things right is the most likely victor. If Hull can get their precision right from lineout to goal kicking they are a very capable side. The desire to win is never in doubt and another never-say-die display could well reap rewards on the Lancashire coast this week.
