Mike Wants More Consistency in 2024

This week marks the one year anniversary of Mike Umaga becoming Director of Rugby. He and assistant coach Tony Penn are looking to bigger and better thing in the new year after ending 2023 on a high by winning the derby at Hull Ionians. Looking back on his 12 months in charge of the team, Umaga has one word to describe his time in charge of the team.

“Inconsistent,” he said.
“We knew what we had in the tank and we knew we still have work to do.
“We still haven’t hit 100 per cent of our capability yet and that is quite frustrating.
“We’ll be looking for more consistency in the second half of the season.
“But that will be tough because we lost a few players to injuries.
“We’ll have to see how they pull up.
“But we have guys coming back.
“The win before Christmas was good for our soul, just to have that winning feeling.
“And to see the smile on the faces of the players was priceless.”
