5 January 2019 – Northern Premier Division : Hull 16-14 Blaydon

Simon Humberstone’s three penalties proved the difference as Hull won their first game of the New Year to stay top of the table. Blaydon took the lead with a converted try after only two minutes but five minutes later Keane Naylor scored a try with Humberstone adding the conversion to level the scores.

A Simon Humberstone penalty gave Hull a 10-7 half time lead. In the 59th minute Hull extended their lead with another Humberstone penalty but five minutes later Blaydon took the lead following a converted try. Hull regained the lead in the 68th minute through Humberstone’s third penalty kick to put Hull 16-14 ahead. With the clock ticking down only a spectacular tackle by Stephen Hihetah in added time halted a Blaydon attack 15 yards out as they fell short by two points.

4 January 2014 – National Two North : Hull 17-37 Macclesfield

The New Year opened with a home fixture against league leaders Macclesfield and the result went the way of the visitors. Macc’s huge pack paved the way for their victory although it was Hull who scored first with a James Cameron penalty after three minutes. Macclesfield were level three minutes later and took the lead with another penalty to go in 6-3 ahead at the break. Macclesfield started the second half strongly and scored three quick tries with two converted.

Hull’s energies were being sapped and Macclesfield scored a further two tries with one converted to build a big lead. As the final whistle approached Hull scored twice – Jamie Barnard raced past four defenders before an illegal high tackle resulted in a penalty try, converted by Cameron and seconds later Jesse Bright raced in from 50 yards before Cameron’s conversion signalled the end of the game.
