Harrison Astley believes their derby win over Hull Ionians can set them up for a positive start to 2024. Astley was involved in the eight-man move from left to right that saw David Davison score the game-winning try in the final seconds of a dramatic 23-18 win at Brantingham Park. Astley said the spirit shown to secure that win came down to trusting each other in the team and he was proud of the win.
“After a derby win like that, you can only go on to better things,” Astley said.
“Spirits are high, we can come and train strong and push towards the top of the table.
“I thought we’d given it away with our discipline.
“We used the power at the front of the lineout to go short like we did.
“We hadn’t done that all game, so we changed it up and it worked.
“But to come back like we did to stay composed and spread the ball through the backs like we did was unreal as you could see with the celebrations.
“We’ve started well in a number of games early in the season, but then we lost a few.
“But we all still trust each other and we know we can still pull out a win no matter how long is left to play. I’m really proud of the boys.”
