Hull found a well drilled Sheffield side too much for them in an entertaining game where Hull still found line outs hard to win. Playing into the wind Hull we’re first to score through a well struck Reece Dean penalty.
Sheffield started to assert themselves with an efficient lineout and strong scrum giving them ample possession. After a strong lineout drive Sheffield were awarded a penalty after seven minutes and scrum-half Elliot Fisher levelled the scores for a Sheffield.
Hull then were unlucky to see their deep kick off go dead and after the subsequent scrum to Sheffield they made the most of another penalty award and Fisher put his side ahead after 11 minutes. His third penalty after 17 minutes eased his side to a six-point lead. A good Hull break after 20 minutes was only stopped by a knock on.
Sheffield’s response was to utilise a penalty award to kick deep into Hull’s ’22’ and a good catch-and-drive saw Jones get the touch down with Fisher getting the conversion after 27 minutes.
Sheffield repeated the operation on 35 minutes with Bartlett rounding off a great forward drive with an unconverted try to see his side ahead 21-3.
With half time approaching Hull’s Reece Dean cross kicked to winger Jamie Shaul who took a difficult ball before passing to centre Peter Hudson-Kowalewicz who raced the 40 yards to the try line with Dean adding the conversion to give Hull a life line at 21-10 at halftime.
The second period saw Sheffield start really well and despite Hull holding the visitors up over the line early on, the away side kept up the pressure and front row forward Jason Hignell got the touchdown for an unconverted try.
Worse was to come for Hull when another Sheffield forward drive saw the ball get to winger Christian Hooper who skipped past several defenders on his way to a try converted by Fisher to see Sheffield well ahead 33-10 after 50 minutes.
Hull then had the better of the final quarter and managed a nice try by number eight Will Hall after good work by the whole side after 64 minutes. Despite getting the better of the later scrums, Hull were not able to add to their score leaving Sheffield 33-15 victors.
