This Week’s Memory Lane With Stephen Hodgson

At the end of the 2022/23 season, our club historian Norman Angell stood down from his role. Before he did, he handed the reigns over to our new club historian Stephen Hodgson. Each week, Stephen will delve into the club’s history books to provide a trip down memory lane from 5, 10 and 15 years ago. Do you feature this week?

1 December 2018 – Northern Premier Division : Sandal 3-31 Hull

Hull ended their hosts unbeaten home record after initially finding Sandal’s defence in obdurate mood in the first half and saw themselves three points down to a penalty after 30 minutes. It took Hull until the 37th minute to score when Tomasi Tanumi went over for an unconverted try to give Hull a two point lead at half time. The second half saw Hull score 26 points without response from the hosts. Mike Adlard scored twice with Lee Birch and Tomasi Tanumi also scoring. Simon Humberstone converted three of the tries as Hull eased to a maximum points haul.

30 November 2013 – National Two North : Hull 14-10 Leicester Lions

Hull player-coach Kerry Wood saw his 14th placed side pull off a vital first home win of the season. Leicester scored two unconverted tries in the first half, the second from Hull born outside half Adam Greendale, in response to a sole try for Hull scored by Jamie Kirk and followed up by a magnificent touchline conversion from Greg Lound. In the second half Hull substitute Sean Hay scored after 62 minutes with Lound landing another magnificent conversion to put Hull ahead. A tremendous defensive effort kept the visitors out and Hull held on for the win.

6 December 2008 – North One : Hull 31-0 West Hartlepool

Hull opened the scoring in first half added time with a Guy Martinson try and James Cameron adding the conversion. After the break it was a different story. Cameron scored and then converted his own try before Matt White scored twice, both converted by Cameron who also scored a penalty to make it five successful kicks out of five as the visitors were nilled.
