This Week’s Memory Lane With Stephen Hodgson

At the end of the 2022/23 season, our club historian Norman Angell stood down from his role. Before he did, he handed the reigns over to our new club historian Stephen Hodgson. Each week, Stephen will delve into the club’s history books to provide a trip down memory lane from 5, 10 and 15 years ago. Do you feature this week?

Hull RUFC had no game on this weekend in 2018.

9 November 2013 – National Two North : Sheffield Tigers 16-18 Hull
Hull RUFC’s record points scorer James Cameron held his nerve to kick an injury time penalty to give Hull only their second win of the season. Sheffield Tigers dominated the first half and Hull’s woes mounted as they lost hooker Nyemba with a suspected broken arm. Just before the break Ben Thoy crashed over for a try which Cameron converted.

Hull responded well in the second half and new back row Joe Stafford shrugged off a couple of tackles to score. In the 62 nd minute another Cameron
penalty saw Hull just one point adrift and Sheffield were visibly tired as the game entered the last 10 minutes. Just when it seemed they had held out Hull were given a difficult penalty chance in injury time which Cameron cooly slotted over to win the game for the visitors.
