During last season, it was announced that the tackle rule would be changed in community rugby to prevent injuries. Tackles needed to be below the base of the sternum which was a lot for players to take on board, after years of tackling normally. Second rower Liam Regardsoe admits he thought he’d be affected a lot more by the rule change, but is impressed with how he has adapted.
“To be honest I thought I’d struggle more with the tackle rule change,” Regardsoe said.
“I’ve tried to take 20 per cent off and focus on tackling lower.
“I bet I’ve only had about one high tackle this season.
“We need to drop our tackle height because we are getting stung with the new law coming in.
“We have to manage games better, especially at crucial times at the end of each half.
“Against Billingham, we just worked hard for each other.
“We made too many silly mistakes let them back in the game and it was closer than what it should have been.
“There’s work still to be done after the break.
“We need to get back to playing the way we know we can play.”
