The good thing about rugby is that when you are bitterly disappointed with a result or performance, the chance to make amends comes around very quickly. That’s the case this weekend as the players look to put last weekend’s 30-30 draw at Preston Grasshoppers behind them. Leading by 12 points with what seemed like seconds to play, the home sides scored twice to secure a draw to the frustration of the visitors. Matiu Welch paid credit to Preston for playing until the very end, but he wants to finish teams off when they are in a position to do so.
“Saturday was a tough pill to swallow,” Welch said.
“It just goes to show if we take our foot off the throat anything can happen and unfortunately for us it did.
“Credit goes to ‘Hoppers who never gave up and got a result they’d be happy with. “We need to keep our foot on the throat and keep at it for the full 80, or like last week’s case, more like 90!
“On a positive note, two defeats from the first six games isn’t too bad. Definitely not!
“It should’ve only been one but again, we need to keep the hammer down and go solid for the full 80 mintes.
“We are sitting mid-table so early on which is a good position to be in and just keep building.
“We need to get back to the way we know we can play and get a good result at home Saturday against Billingham.”
