One of the standout moments in Saturday’s 24-18 win over Sheffield Tigers came in the final minute. Leading by six points, the Tigers knew a converted try would secure a dramatic win. The visitors moved the ball to their right hand side hoping their winger had the beating of Peter Hudson-Kowalewicz. He didn’t. Hull’s winger was perfectly placed to stop the tack with a crunching tackle. It was a moment that summed up Hull’s vigour in a deserved win. For Hudson-Kowalewicz, it was all part of his job, even if he wasn’t entirely happy with his tackling technique.
“Hard work got us this win,” Hudson-Kowalewicz said.
“Compared to last week, we stayed together as a team and that was a big emphasis for this game.
“For me, that late tackle was just about getting my body in the way.
“I don’t think it was a great tackle technique, but you have to put your body on the line to get those moments to come off.
“We want to make this place a fortress which will help us get the supporters behind us even more. And our confidence will grow.
“We can build on this result and a trip to Preston next weekend is a good opportunity for us. We’re not too bad away from home.
“This will be a game played on 4G I think, so that will be fun. It should be a quick game which I like.
“I don’t particularly like 4G pitches, but I like quick games.
“I’ve had a few inconsistencies so far this season, but I’m still young and we are a new group.”
