Kym Russell came off the bench on Saturday to score the seventh and final try in our 49-12 win at Huddersfield. The forward made a speedy recovery from a knee injury sustained in the derby against Hull Ionians the week before and he crossed the line late in the game. Russell believes the win at Huddersfield, who ran Hull Ionians close in their season opener, was a statement win.
“It was important we bounced back after last week,” Russell said.
“Training was good in the lead up to the game and everyone wanted to redeem themselves from last week’s display, which wasn’t the greatest.
“We made a statement against Huddersfield, putting 49 points on a team like Huddersfield, who only lost to Hull Ionians by eight points.
“That’s not a bad result for us, really.
“We’ll take two wins from three to start the season and hopefully we can make it three wins from four next week at Leeds.
“If we can win that, we’ll be right up there again.
“I was disappointed to injure my knee the previous week obviously, but it held up and it was good to get my first try in two seasons.
