New signing Jack Baldry has made an impressive start to his career at Hull RUFC. Baldry scored one of his side’s three tries in the 30-25 loss to Hull Ionians, making it two tries in his two games for his new side. The back row forward admits crossing for tries is not normally a feature of his game, but he’ll do what is necessary for the benefit of the team. While the result didn’t go his way, Baldry was pleased with the way his side played until the final minute.
“We stuck together in the second half,” Baldry said.
“Our first half performance wasn’t what we were looking for, especially with our lineout drive.
“In the second half, we started to grow and despite having a lot of injuries in the match, especially to our forwards, but we can take our ability to come back from a deficit of 15 points as a positive.
“At the end of the day, we got a bonus point so that’s something we can take from the game.
“We have a lot of new players, myself included and it’s going to take time for the team to gel.
“We have four influential players out injured, watching from the sidelines, it’s difficult not having them on the pitch.
“As for the tries, I don’t normally score tries, but I found myself in those positions.
“I’ll do anything I can to help the team and for me, it’s not about scoring tries, it’s about winning.
“It’s good to score tries, but that’s not important to me.”
