David Halaifonua admits Hull RUFC need to improve their discipline if they are to return to winning ways at Huddersfield this weekend. Hull were punished in Saturday’s derby when Hull Ionians kicker Lewis Minikin nailed three penalties as the visitors won 30-25. After conceding 27 points at Otley and 30 on Saturday, Halaifonua wants to see the defence stiffen up and limit the number of scoring opportunities to their opponents.
“We need to improve our defence at mauls and rucks, Halaifonua said.
“There were mistakes that we have to fix.
“It’s all about us and what we have to do.
“Huddersfield is another challenge for us this week.
“All the boys were disappointed after losing on Saturday but we have to make sure we improve.
“The things that need fixing are not big things.
“Things like discipline, it’s going to help if we can improve that.
“We need to work on our maul defence and rucks.”
Halaifonua is one of several new signings made by Director of Rugby Mike Umaga. Halaifonua has a wealth of experience having played for Tonga in the last two World Cups. With the World Cup under way in France, who does he think will make it to the final at the Stade de France on 28 October?
“Every player wishes to play at the highest level,” Halaifonua said.
“The World Cup is the biggest tournament of all.
“Right now, I’m enjoying my time in Hull.
“I think it will be a tough World Cup and I think the final will be between Ireland and France.”
