Club captain Ali Heard admits Saturday’s derby with Hull Ionians will be a challenge, but it’s one that the side will be ready for. Both sides started their season with a win, and both were made to fight hard for the points at Otley and Huddersfield respectively. Heard said the composure shown at the end of the game from experienced players was crucial in getting over the line.
“It’s unreal to get back to winning ways,” Heard said.
“It was really close at the end to be fair and we were under the cosh a bit.
“But it took some hard graft from the boys and a lot of experience was shown when Latu (Maka’afi) and Charlie (Beech) came on.
“Their composure in the last few minutes to help us look after the ball and not do anything too flash helped us secure the win.
“Hull Ionians will be a tough side to beat, derbies can go either way. They always present a good squad so it’ll be a challenge, but one we are up for.
“We couldn’t have asked for much more than a winning start.
“It was a massive step going forward for us. There are areas we have to work on, but we have time to work on those.”
