This Saturday sees the return of the Hull rugby union derby game after Hull’s return to National 2 North. Hull take on Hull Ionians in what will be a keenly fought contest with a large crowd assured to see which side will come out on top.
Both sides had creditable away victories in the West Riding last week, but those victories were only achieved very late in the game which argues that whilst both Hull sides showed great resilience they were not able to completely dominate.
Hull showed some impressive skills in the first phase at Otley and they got on top in the last few minutes as Otley tired. Hull’s front row performed well and the lineout worked to give a good supply of possession. However with a number of players making their debuts it is likely that it will take a game or two for all the units to combine successfully.
Both sides have good goal kickers which could be key in what will be a close game. Hull had few injuries last week but they did see full back Harrison Astley leave the field injured, but his replacement Duell Trueman played well foiling a certain Otley try late on. This is just one area where Hull now have competition for places.
Hull’s coaches will have much to ponder before making their final selections, but given the side’s form last week it is likely that they will not make many changes.
It will be a tight game but Hull will be hoping that their new look side will have enough to get the better of a good Hull Ionians team.
