Director of Rugby Mike Umaga is looking forward to training tomorrow night after his players got their season off to a winning start at Otley on Saturday. It was a game that was decided late on and Umaga was pleased that the effort his players put in during the pre-season, has paid off with a win.
“Any kind of win was what we were looking for,” Umaga said.
“It could have gone either way, but it was a true test of character for the lads.
“A few months ago, we might have given up the ghost and lost that game.
“But there was a nice calming influence on the field. Tony and I have always said that there is only so much we can do as coaches, we just need solutions on the park and they found those.
“It will be interesting to go into training on Tuesday after a win, and see how the boys feel.
“We’ll review and reflect but knowing that all their hard work has been rewarded with a win.
“We will need that spirit this week. We are probably still under done but as long as the boys are working hard, we’ll take that.
“They were able to go home and say they won as opposed to we lost again.
“It’s little things like that that count.”
