A Statement From Cam Curry

It’s tough to put into words the mix of emotions I’ve felt on facing retirement from rugby. I always said the day I retired  would be the day I stopped enjoying long away trips… but that day never came, and instead the decision was taken out of my hands and placed into those of the medical professionals.

It’s safe to say however, that the feelings of sadness are far outweighed by an immense sense of pride when I reflect on the last 17 years of my life as a rugby player. I’d like to thank everybody at Hull RUFC for making my time here unforgettable. The players, coaches and everybody involved in the club have become family over the past eight years.  They have dragged me through some difficult times and we have celebrated like champions along the way. You don’t win them all and learning to lose together makes those wins even sweeter!

My proudest moment with the club is without doubt, winning promotion to National 1 for the first time in club history. Going unbeaten at home and winning the league in 2022/23 by beating Hull Ionians is one of my proudest achievements to date. Representing three county teams and winning the Yorkshire cup in 2018 rank in tied second place!

Summer is always an exciting time of year, when the lads put in the work for the season ahead. I’ve been so impressed with what I’ve seen and with the forward blinkers on, I’m honoured and excited to represent this club in an off-field capacity for seasons to come.

Sooner or later, all good things come to an end, and it’s time to let the young bucks like Latu to have a go! Enjoy every minute of every game, the wins and losses, as you never know when it will be your last!
