For Alex Todd, it was not the debut he had wished for. A 40-22 defeat at Bishop’s Stortford was not the result the team had hoped for either, but despite the loss, there were still plenty of positives to take from the performance. Had Hull RUFC not been reduced to 13 men for a short period of time, perhaps the outcome might have been different, or the margin would have been smaller. Todd, who joined the club in the summer, believes there is plenty of optimism going forward starting with this weekend’s home opener against Darlington MP.
“Saturday’s game was an awakening to the new league we are in,” Todd said.
“We were dominant to begin with through a strong scrum, great individual skill and overall desire.
“But ill discipline in the middle let us down.
“In the coming weeks we need to work on maintaining the tempo, pace and controlled aggression we showed in the opening minutes.”
