Ben: We Deserved More From Season Opener

Hull RUFC may have lost their season opener 40-22 away to Bishop’s Stortford, but the result did not reflect the effort and level of performance the visitors put into the game. Reduced to 13 men for a five-minute period in the second half, the home side capitalised to make it a losing journey for the Chants Ave side. Prop Ben Boothman believes there are plenty of positives to take from the performance.

“To be fair the result doesn’t reflect the team’s performance,” Boothman said.
“We were in it for vast majority of the game.
“They were just faster around the corner carrying than the league before.
“Our set pieces were great, we dominated the scrums which bodes well for the season as that’s something we pride ourselves on, and with limited work in pre-season it was a good sign.
“We had a couple of cards which left us short on the field and teams at this level with capitalise on those.
“The boys stood up to what’s expected and I’m sure we will be great contenders in this league.
“It’s a good step up, but after one game it’s hard to tell as there have been lots of signings at lots of clubs. Well know more five or six games in.
“We have plenty to build on and I have the confidence we’ll adjust well to this league.
“There’s is such a great feeling within the team because we have been together a while and we all have each other’s back.
“We will all help each other to develop in what’s needed for this league. Watch this space!”
