Cam: We Will Surprise Teams This Season

At 3pm tomorrow, Cam Curry has the honour of leading Hull RUFC out onto the field for their historic, first ever game in National 1. It’s a moment the club has been looking forward to ever since securing promotion at the end of last season. Like all newly promoted sides, Hull will be regarded as underdogs for the majority of games they play this season. But Curry is happy for the team to wear that tag. He knows that within the squad, there is a bond that can help them surprise teams this season.

“The excitement and buzz has been building among the players, coaching staff and committee as we approach our first ever game in National 1 at Bishop’s Stortford,” Curry said.
“Pre-season has flown by and the squad is shaping up and we’re keen to get back on the pitch and test ourselves.
“As a newly promoted side, there is no pressure on us.
“We’re the underdogs and we will thrive off that because our own personal high standards will shine through and this is a huge opportunity to put our stamp on a new league.
“Leading the team out is a huge honour. The lads are well aware of the challenges awaiting us this season, so my job will be to keep the team ticking cohesively as one unit.
“It was our never-say-die attitude that won us big games and ultimately the league last season.
“Every game will be a big game this season so with improved skills and fitness going into the campaign, I think we will surprise teams with the level of doggedness and tenacity we can bring to games.
“The key for us will be control and structure with well-drilled set pieces forming a sturdy base for us to build our attacks.
“We’ll be aiming to build on last season’s impressive defensive record, so the step up in pace and physicality is something we will embrace.”
