Hull RUFC travelled to Macclesfield for their second pre-season friendly on Saturday, and while they ran out comfortable 24-10 winners, the fixture was another chance for players to increase their match fitness. Full-back Reece Dean admits the friendlies are a nice break from the rigours of training each Tuesday and Thursday night. Dean also said the matches are a great way to figure out how new signings like fly-half Joe Carlisle likes to play.
“Pre season has been tough, but it’s what we needed,” Dean said.
“All the lads are looking better for it!
“Our first friendly at Pocklington was a good first hit out for us.
“We have a way to go still, but it was nice to blow the cobwebs off!
“With us having a new number 10 in Joe, and a few other new players in key positions, these friendly just let us all know how to play with each other and get little combinations together!
“All the new lads are settling in great and they are all adding to the team so roll on the start of the season.”
