Director of Rugby Gary Pearce is still looking to add to his squad ahead of the season opener at Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday, September 3. Joe Carlisle and Jack Edwards are two players already settling in at the club with others currently training at the club with a view to signing. Pearce will use the remaining friendlies to give players opportunities to play. The second friendly takes place at Macclesfield tomorrow before Welsh side Llangennech make the trip to Chants Ave next weekend. Pearce admits pre-season has gone well and believes the friendlies will help get his players up to the fitness levels needed for National League 1.
“The players have trained hard in pre-season, as they always do,” Pearce said.
“They’ve put a lot of work in and we’ve picked up the intensity over the last fortnight.
“I’m comfortable with where we are at the moment and we are in a good place.
“Having the same squad as last season certainly helps.
“With the friendlies, we want to bring contact in a match environment and get our fitness levels up.
“The games are a way to help the players back into the swing of things.
“We are going to give a couple of players a chance at Macclesfield as we look to maybe add three or four more players.
“Ideally, we need to make sure we have a strong squad of 30 or more players for the new season.”
