Steve: We’ll Focus On What We Can Do Next Season

As the players prepare for the biggest season in Hull RUFC’s history, the fixtures list can seem daunting. Sale FC and Rosslyn Park missed out on promotion after finishing second and third last season respectively, but centre Steve Johnson is preparing to ensure they control the things the players can control. He knows the new season will be different in that they won’t go into many games as favourites, but he hopes the team can find their feet quickly and send a message to the rest of the league right from day one.

“The fixtures look good, don’t they,” Johnson said.
“There’s lots of big challenges ahead no doubt.
“I think Leeds has got to be a game to look forward too being a derby game.
“But also the challenge of going to some well established National 1 teams and hopefully getting some good results!
“It’s a strange feeling going from top of the tree to the bottom again, similar to when we got promoted from National 3.
“But it’s certainly something I think we’re ready for and something we will thrive off.
“I have no expectations for the games ahead.
“I just want to go to each game and focus on us and what we can bring to the party!
“There is plenty of hard work to be done before then.”
