Now that promotion has been secured and Hull RUFC know they’ll be playing in National League 1, plans for the new campaign can get under way. Director of Rugby Gary Pearce knows just how competitive the third tier of English rugby is going to be having taken Ionians there for the 2013/14 season. Pearce and the rest of the club’s committee will discuss their plans for the challenge that awaits them next season.
“We’ll start planning for next season now with a few meetings and discuss what we can do,” Pearce said.
”We know the task in hand and we know it’s a difficult task.
”Let’s not kid ourselves. It’s going to be a tough ride.
”Caldy’s promotion takes another northern side out of the equation.
“There will be quite a bit of travelling involved next season.
“We’ll enjoy it and we’ll be ready to have a go.
“We have a really good squad, but we’ll need a few more to get the numbers up because we’ll need more players because it’s a more competitive league.
“It’s more physical, faster and we’ll have to rest players a bit more.
“We’ll go to National 1 where people will write us off.
“We’re usually pretty good when we have been written off.
“Thirteen sides will have to come to Chants Ave and we’ll see how good they might be.
“They might be too good for us, but they might not be.”
