Gary Pearce’s last words to his players before they leave the changing rooms tomorrow ahead of the latest derby with Ionians will be ‘enjoy it’. Pearce and his players are one point away from claiming the National 2 North title and having already won promotion to the third tier of English rugby, with tomorrow’s opponents, Pearce knows these are special games to be involved in.
“It’s a derby and we have the chance to win the league,” Pearce said.
“I’ll tell the players to enjoy it and express themselves as they have done this season.
“Teams don’t get many chances to win a league on their home ground, so we’ll be up for this.
“It promises to be a great occasion with a big crowd like there was at their place before Christmas.
“Derbies bring the best out of players and while we’ve been consistent, we will respect Ionians.
“We are representing the club and we’ve worked hard to get to where we are.
“We’re nearly there, but not there yet.”
