Latu Makaafi returns to his former club this weekend knowing Hull RUFC will face a very stiff competition. Hull travel to The Avenue with a target on their back after opening up an 11-point lead at the top of National 2 North by beating Rotherham 20-17 last weekend. Makaafi praised Gary Pearce and his coaching staff for masterminding that famous victory, but the powerful forward insists they cannot underestimate this weekend’sopponents.
“It’s was a great win on Saturday to beat Rotherham who are full of experienced players,” Makaafi said.
“A huge credit goes to Gary and the coaching staff for the great preparation and build up to that game.
“We all looked forward to that game following our loss to Rotherham. We’ve learnt a lot over time.
“Wharfedale this weekend should a good match.
“I know they will be up for this game, they are a tough team to play at home.
“They’ve got a lot of injured players coming back this week which should make it interesting.
“Wharfedale’s supporters are always out in force, ready to cheer on their guys.
“We need to take another step forward for this game and not be complacent after our win last weekend.
“We need to keep up the level we’ve been playing over the last few weeks.
“For me it’s great to go back to one of my former clubs and see a lot of familiar faces.”
