A Tribute To Johnny Whiteley

Hull RUFC has lost one of its keenest supporters. Johnny Whiteley sadly passed away on Monday.

Johnny was a lover of all sport and could often be seen watching matches as Chants Ave and he will be sorely missed.

Johnny, who was the first Englishman to win the Rugby League World Cup, was proud to come from Hull and coming from Hessle Road.

Anyone who spent a second with Johnny, will have been blessed by knowing a very special man, known affectionately as Gentleman Johnny.

Johnny loved anyone who played rugby, union or league and if he could help, he would help anyone who needed it.

In a hugely successful playing and coaching career, Johnny won the Championship and played in the final of the Challenge Cup with Hull FC while appearing in three World Cups. He remains the last coach to guide Great Britain to a series win over Australia Down Under.

Johnny, who coached both Hull FC and KR, was one of a kind with the emphasis on kind, and he will never be forgotten. Hull RUFC send condolences to the Whiteley family.
