MJ: Our Defence Is Our Greatest Weapon

For any team to be successful, they need a weapon. Or if they are lucky, several weapons. Hull are top of the table thanks to their defence that remains the best in the four tiers of English rugby. Hull are conceding just 11.4 points per game which after 16 gruelling games has been proved to be no fluke. Front rower Mike Jobling believes shutting teams down is one of their greatest assets.

“Our defence has been the key to our success,” Jobling said.
“It’s showing that teams with fantastic attacking credentials are struggling to find a way through, round or even over us!
“We treat defence as our weapon as we pride ourselves on it>
“We love to do it and love building pressure on other teams when they have the ball.
“I think it’s really down to the tactical approach we take by analysing the opposition each week with Griff (defence coach Clive Griffiths) and then putting that into application on the training field on a Tuesday and Thursday night.
“We aren’t reinventing the wheel with how we defend.
“We are just making ourselves accountable for our jobs, tackle your man and know who you have.”
