It’s not very often you see two scrum-halves from the same team on the pitch at the same time but that’s what happened with Hull last weekend. Those who pay attention to the pre-match warm-up would have wondered why scrum-half Harvey Harding was with the forwards and not with the backs. It was part of Gary Pearce’s cunning plan to beat Fylde by playing Harding in the number seven role. It meant Sam Crane started the game at scrum-half and Crane was full of admiration for his team-mate’s versatility.
“It was great to play with Harvey in the back row last Saturday,” Crane said.
“As a scrum-half, he offers a lot of support to the back rowers in defence and at the breakdown.
“It was only a matter of time before he got the call up.
“Then he still slotted back into scrum half at the end of the game Bergamasco-esque!
“I’m really looking forward to another tough competition tomorrow at Ionians.
“I know a lot of the lads are looking forward to it from both sides so it shapes to be a huge game!”
