Toothless Tigers No Match For Hungry Hull

Winger Mike Adlard scored twice as Hull beat Sheffield Tigers 29-0 in a well contested Yorkshire derby at Chants Ave.

The home side got off to the perfect start with Adlard scoring in the left hand corner in the first minute of play. Simon Humberstone missed the touchline conversion.

Mark Ireland missed a seventh minute penalty for the visitors and that was as close as they came to troubling the scorers. Hull’s pack were dominating the scrum and Latu Kivalu’s try midway through the first half emphasised their superiority. Humberstone’s conversion made the score 12-0.

On the stroke of half-time, the home side extended their lead to 17-0 when Humberstone’s grubber kick bounced perfectly for Adlard to score his second unconverted try of the game.
Trailing 17-0, Sheffield needed to score the first points of the second half if they were to get anything from this game, but Hull’s defence stood firm when tested.

On the hour mark, Hull picked up their bonus point when Keane Naylor scored in the right hand corner. Humberstone’s conversion was missed, but it had no impact on the outcome of the game.

Six minutes from time, Latu Makaafi scored Hull’s fifth try when he powered over the line from a well worked line out. Humberstone’s conversion extended the home side’s advantage to 29-0.

All that remained for the home side was to keep their line in tact. Solid defending in the final minutes ensured they sent the Tigers back to Sheffield without a point to their name.
