Hooker Ali wants improvement in breakdown at Stourbridge

Hull’s RUFC’s joint leading try scorer Ali Thompson believes his side travel to Stourbridge this weekend in better shape than they did last season.
His assessment comes on the back of last weekend’s 27-8 win over Luctonians in which he crossed the try line twice.
He was part of a dominant pack than helped control the season opener at Chants Ave and he knows another forward battle awaits them this weekend.

“To get off to a five-pointer in our pointing game was what we wanted to do,” Thompson said.
“Going to Stourbridge this week will be tough.
“We played them away last time and won which was unexpected.
“This year, we are a lot more confident.
“Our pack is big and the backs are on form so we are confident of going there this week.
“Our breakdown is something that we are going to have to work on to get things right.
“We feel unstoppable and once that element of our play is sorted, we’ll be stronger.
“Our pack was dominant against Luctonians and our backs worked their magic when we got the ball wide.
“We played it wide when we needed to and we kept it tight when we needed to also.
“Two tries for me was great so no naked run for me this year.”
