Ahead of the start of the new season, Hull RUFC have added Clive Griffiths to their coaching staff at Chants Ave. Griffiths will add an abundance of experience to Gary Pearce’s backroom staff and will become the team’s defensive coach.
Griffiths, like Pearce, is regarded very highly in Welsh rugby having played for the national team before becoming their defensive coach. Most recently, Griffiths was director of rugby at Doncaster Knights in the Championship.
Pearce is delighted to have friend joining him on the sideline and believes his experience will pay dividends this season as Hull prepare for their season opener at home to Luctonians on September 4.
“Clive will bring structure to our defence,” Pearce said. “He has a wealth of experience including a spell as defensive coach for the Welsh national team. He is excellent on the defensive side of the game.
“The rules have changed a little and it’s important to get to grips with the changes quickly and Clive will ensure we adhere to the rules which will help us keep 15 players on the pitch which is very important in the modern game.
“Clive will focus on our tackle technique and he has already made a difference in the early stages of pre-season. The players have responded well to his experience and to what he is bringing to the team.”
