There have been several false dawns in the past 15 months as to when community rugby can return to normal. But it looks like we are getting closer.
A couple of weeks ago, Chants Ave hosted the Seconds’ match against BP Chemicals which also included a a ‘Hangi’ BBQ.
Some first team players including prop Mike Jobling was one of the first team players to take part in the friendly and he revealed that the players are counting down the days before they start pre-season training on June 22.
“We are back training later this month,” Jobling said.
“The mood in the camp is great. The boys are chomping at the bit to get back into some rugby after such a long time off. “It’s a strange time as many of the lads have been doing a lot of fitness on their own.
“So we are almost at a better stage going into pre-season. We can focus more on the rugby and structure elements and not such a heavy load of fitness as the boys have been doing there own graft.
“Our first friendly could be in the opening weekend of August with a chance for the team to have a social afterward which is important. The feeling for all the boys will be to get back to doing what we love and seeing what new faces arrive.”
