It is with great sadness that Hull RUFC announce the death, on April 2nd, of Ron Gibbin, one of the outstanding members of our club, after a long illness.
Ron played a prominent part in the formation and progress of our club following the merger with Old Hymerians RUFC in 1992 and his input since then has been immense.
Ron played for Hull and East Riding RUFC for several years following his National Service. After the Riding/Ionians merger in 1989 he was instrumental in the formation of Hull and East Riding RUFC (1989) and was Vice-Chairman of the club for its three-year existence. As such he was deeply involved in the negotiations with Old Hymerians over several months.

He became Chairman of our club for the period 2000-2002 and was President for the period 2009-2012 and up to the last few years of his illness, Ron was a constant member of the club committee.
Ron was also the club Registrar on six occasions, whilst at the same time being our representative for the Yorkshire County RFU Disciplinary Committee, which involved attending their meetings in Leeds whenever any of our players had to appear before them.
Ron will be greatly missed by all who knew him and by our club members in particular. Hull RUFC send their deepest condolences to his three sons Michael, Peter, Colin and their families in this very sad time for them all.
