How good is it to see scrum-half Mike Goodwin back on a rugby pitch?
For those who don’t know, Mike joined Hull RUFC from Harrogate last summer. Then in a pre-season friendly against Darlington Mowden Park, disaster struck as he suffered horrific leg injuries that ruled him out for several months.
But now, Mike is back playing for Hull RUFC and helped them beat Sheffield Tigers 34-21 at Chants Ave on Saturday.
Goodwin is glad to be back playing and thanked his new team-mates for helping him on the road from treatment room to the pitch.
“I had a double break in the fibula and then a fracture and dislocation of my ankle in the final preseason game August 24th,” Goodwin recalled.
“I also tore the ligaments off the bone in my ankle too.
“Fortunately I initially had my other half pretty much looking after me at home for the first five weeks whilst I was in a cast.
“I was surprised at how much the boys in the team checked up on me when I couldn’t attend training, especially as I’m new in the squad.
“As soon as I was out of cast I was back at training.
“The club helped with all the treatment I needed from Chloe and the rest of the physio team.
“Being able to watch the team train and eventually join in meant I didn’t really have many dark days.
“I just tried to stay busy doing what I was allowed.
“It’s been good to be able to come back in to the team when we’re winning games.
“I just hope I can contribute to it.
“I’m just taking things one day at a time.”
