Ali’s optimism ahead of Loughborough test

Despite losing at Caldy at the weekend, the mood within the Hull RUFC camp remains upbeat.
Hull went to the Wirral as heavy underdogs and gave the league leaders a run for their money and lead 10-6 after half an hour.
But the home side rallied to run out 27-17 winners and forward Ali Thompson believes they can give go into Saturday’s home game with Loughborough Students full of confidence.

“There are plenty of positives to take from the Caldy game into this weekend,” Thompson said.
“We had great success against them last time we played.
“Two interception tries gave them the game after we were so dominant.
“The key is to be strong up front, dominate the set piece and be extremely physical.
“The positives from the weekend were our set-piece play, the dogged determination and effort shown from 1-20 was very pleasing.
“The lads and coaches can be very proud of our performance.
“It was very encouraging knowing we had the second best result in the league against the undefeated caldy, shows how our defence is one of the best in the league and how hard we’ve worked on it all year.
