Hooker Mike not surprised by Hull’s impressive start to the season

After non-stop rugby for the last 16 weeks, Hull RUFC players can enjoy a well-earned weekend off before starting the New Year with the visit of Stourbridge to Chants Ave.
Hooker Mike Jobling has used the time over the break for Christmas to look back on the first four months of the season.
And the forward is not surprised by the start they have made to the season that has seen them pick up seven wins and two draws.
“It’s been a great reflection on the determination and belief of the lads to show that we understand that we have the ability to grind teams down to win,” Jobling said.
“We always come good in the second half and I believe the use of our bench at the correct times has reignited energy at the correct points in games.
“I think the break will only do the squad good as 16 constant weeks of games can have an impact on bodies.
“I’m sure the boys will appreciate a small break to recharge the batteries and then prepare well for the first game of the 2020 against Stourbridge.
“In terms of how well we have done in the first half, I think if you said we would be eighth at Christmas we would have ripped your hand off.
“But I do think we have molded to the league quite well so we have deserved the wins we have produced.
“I can honestly I’m not surprised as the quality of the lads in this squad, and how we gel has shown we can do anything as long as we believe.”
