Hooker Mike Jobling has praised the coaching staff for getting the players ready for the challenges that await them on their return to National Two North.
Hull know the step up from last season when they cruised their way to the North Premier title, and Jobling knew this pre-season would be as tough as any he has faced at the club.
But the hooker is confident the work they players have put in on the training ground will reap its rewards when the season gets under way on September 7 at Huddersfield.
“Pre season is always tough. The main focus has always been to get the squad fit and continue where we left off,” Jobling said.
“We as a team are under no illusions it’s a good step up from National 3 and we want to make sure we are competitive and give a few teams a shock.
“The main focus I think from pre-season is more about bringing the squad together old and new and making a family.
“We want to be a close-knit team and hard to break down. I think we showed against Darlington Mowden Park that people are going to have to work hard to score against us.
“That comes from the top in our sponsors to the management team and then us as players really buying into what we are trying to do as a club.
“It’s been great in that respect that everyone has really bought in, worked hard and I think now we just want to get playing the games that matter.
“I would say the coaches have done a great job as a team to be organised and plan each session and that’s been great.
“I can say for everyone that’s there is a good-feel factor at the club and within the squad and we are all ready for the new challenge ahead.”
