There were a number of new faces on show for Hull RUFC in their first pre-season friendly of the season at Macclesfield.
So who stood out in the comfortable win for the Chants Ave side? Director of Rugby Gary Pearce gives his assessment of how the new additions fared in Macclesfield.
“Hooker Ali Thompson looked very fit and played physical and aggressively. He was very busy and our set pieces worked well.
“Prop Loma Tivali carried the ball very well and produced some sparkling runs. Toby Sanders did well at prop as did Chris Bell in the second row.
“Latu Macafi was a very physical presence in the number eigh position while another number eight Ross Osbourne made some good hits and ran the ball well.
“Ross is a former rugby league player and he will only get betterthe more he plays for us.
“In the backs, Mike Goodwin looked very sharp and strong at scrum-half and kept things ticking over for us.
“At full-back, Arthur Lennon took his try really well and the way he fitted in pleased me.”
The new players will get to know the rest of the squad a lot better at this weekend’s mini camp in Wales which will include a friendly against Bridgend.
For those unable to travel across the Severn Bridge, the team will end their pre-season friendliest at home against Darlington Mowden Park on Saturday, August 24 where the club will be providing a barbecue for friends and families at Chants Ave.
See you there.
