Welcome to the Ferens Ground for today’s league fixture against our visitors from the West Riding, Harrogate RUFC.
Formed as far back as 1871 Harrogate have a long and proud history and have always been regarded as one of the leading clubs in Yorkshire and England rugby union. Our history against them is comparatively recent but we have enjoyed some very good games both at their old Claro Road ground and also at their new and very impressive Stratstone Stadium. This season Harrogate have had a bit of a mixed start to the campaign having won six and lost four of their ten league fixtures and are fifth in the table on 33 points. However, their away form has been very good having won four and lost one of their games on the road. Last week they were surprisingly beaten at home by Alnwick by 13-10 but our supporters will remember our home game against the same club on October 27th when Alnwick gave us a very tough match before losing 29-13 to us. Harrogate will be smarting after last week’s defeat and will no doubt be very keen to make amends at our expense and are sure to give our side a very hard time this afternoon.
In the corresponding games between our two clubs last season we won a very tight match at the Strathstone Stadium by 27-23 and in an even tighter return game at the Ferens Ground the honours were even at 24-24. I think we can look forward to another close game this afternoon.
It is a pleasure, once again, to welcome the players, officials and supporters of Harrogate RUFC to our ground this afternoon.
