Gary Pearce believes there wasn’t too much for him to do between last week’s opening day defeat at Rossendale and their first home game against Wirral.
Losing 29-28 wasn’t the start he had planned for, but a bonus point for scoring four tries and another bonus point for losing by seven points or less, gave his side something to build on.
A repeat performance against Wirral should see Hull get their first win of the season, according to Pearce.
“We were penalised more than they were, but we outscored them by four tries to two.
“We are disappointed with the result but it wasn’t a bad result.
“Looking back, it’s a game we shouldn’t have lost.
“We had five players missing and for Simon Humberstone was making his league debut.
“He will have learned a bit from last weekend.
“We know we are a good side and if we play like that against Wirral, we’ll win.
“Handling the pressure is something we have to work on.
“Last weekend we had seven possessions in their half during the second half and we came away with points five times.
“On another day we could have won by 20 points, but picking up two points is not a disaster.
