If you’re on your way to Chants Ave for Saturday’s first home game of the season, you might see a few new faces that have joined the squad this season.
Norman Angell introduces you to the new players who has joined the squad.
The club have signed four new players during the close season and they are; three-quarter Keane Naylor, a former Hull Ionian who has joined us from Harrogate; three-quarter Ben Winterburn from Hull Ionians and back-row Tom O’Donnell has signed from Otley. The last signing is Simon Humberstone, a fly-half who has played for Pontypridd, Cardiff Blues and more recently Doncaster.
The last three all made their club debuts against Rossendale with Tom scoring the last try and Simon kicking two penalties and a conversion. Hull’s other tries came from Wesley Langkilde, Rupert Kay and Mike Adlard.
Leaving the club are back-row forwards Zak Poole and Liam Fitts.
Zak, who was on loan from Hull Ionians but had promised to sign for Hull this season has taken up an offer to join Rotherham Titans and was in their team which surprisingly lost 33-34 at home to Old Elthamians last week in their opening National Division One game. We all wish Zak the best of luck with his new club, he had a tremendous season with us and we will miss him greatly, but he was always destined for greater things.
He played 21 games for us last season and scored six tries.
Liam was another valued member of our squad and was also a talented and hard-working back-row who played in 14 of our games and scored two tries. He has moved to Australia to take up new employment and once again I am sure we all wish him the best of luck in his new venture. If he ever decides to return to England he knows where we live!
