Hull beat Doncaster Phoenix to win the Yorkshire Cup

Hull beat Doncaster Phoenix 34-7 to win the Yorkshire Cup at York’s Clifton Park.
Two penalties from Steve Johnson gave Hull a 6-0 lead before Doncaster replied with a converted try to lead 7-6.
Wes Langkilde scored Hull’s first try after their pack dominated in the scrum. Johnson converted for a 13-7 lead that Hull took into the half-time interval.
Doncaster played eight minutes with 13 men following two yellow card during which time Hull extended their lead to 20-7 after Harvey Harding scored after another impressive push from the pack to allow the scrum-half the easy job of grounding the ball. Johnson added the extras from in front of the posts.
Harding himself was sent to the sin bin following a high tackle but the numerical disadvantage didn’t affect Hull.
Ali Heard judged the bounce of the ball perfectly to score his side’s third try of the night, converted by Johnson for a 27-7 lead.
Fittingly, Hull’s final try came as a result of more pack domination which Doncaster had no answer to.
The referee had no choice but to award a penalty try to seal Hull’s second Yorkshire Cup success in their 25th Anniversary season.
