Norman Angell’s lowdown on Birkenhead

Birkenhead were formed in 1871 and are one of the oldest and most famous clubs in England having produced 46 international players, six British Lions and 317 County players.
They moved to their Upper Park ground in 1885 and it is still their home. The ground has seen two international games and four All-Black games during its existence.
The advent of league rugby union has not been kind to Park who were placed at county league standard for many years but they did have a five year spell at North One/National North Three level and regained that status at the start of this season.
They have not found it easy going however and are presently second from bottom in the table having won just three and drawn one of their 21 games.
We have played Park on 12 occasions in the past and have won seven and lost five of them. In the corresponding game at the Upper Park on November 25th we posted a 50-3 victory over them.
It is a pleasure to welcome the players, officials and supporters of Birkenhead Park to our ground on Saturday.
