Last Saturday the Northern Premier Division was badly hit by the adverse weather conditions which saw four matches called off, including our away game at Lymm which was called off on the Friday evening due to the pitch being flooded.
In the three games that were played Harrogate had a tough game against lowly
Birkenhead Park at Ruddings Lane, eventually winning by 30-23 over a side that has only won twice this season.
Morley’s recent fine form continued with a good home win over Wirral while
league leaders Preston Grasshoppers totally overwhelmed visitors Kendal by 87-7, a surprising result against a side that are usually hard to beat.
This gives the ‘Hoppers a 22 point lead over second placed Lymm and a 23 point lead over ourselves in third place, with both clubs having two games in hand against the leaders.
Harrogate’s win took them up to fourth place with 53 points.
At the lower end our neighbours Pocklington are bottom with 10 points, behind
Birkenhead Park on 17 and Morley on 18, with a nine point gap behind Sandal on 27 points.
My games to watch today are firstly, the Wirral v Billingham clash where sixth play fifth. Wirral beat visitors Lymm a couple of weeks ago and have only lost once at home this season.
They will be keen to put their defeat at Morley last week behind them.
Secondly the Kendal v Harrogate game could be interesting where eighth play fourth. Kendal have already lost four times at home this season but will be smarting after their trouncing last week.
Gate have lost twice away this season and will be looking for a better performance than they gave v Birkenhead. On the other hand perhaps their draw at the Ferens two weeks ago took more out of them than they expected!! Thirdly the Yorkshire derby between Ilkley and Sandal in a ninth v eleventh position game could go either way but home advantage should swing it for
the Stacks Field men.
