Over Christmas, Hull lost their number one supporter.
Mary Beal, wife of John and mother of Richard – the club’s main sponsors – sadly passed away.
Like everyone else associated with the club, the players are still coming to terms with the news.
Fly-half Steve Johnson wants nothing more than to beat Harrogate and dedicate the win to Mary.
“When we got the news of Mary I think it’s safe to say everyone was affected by it,” Johnson said.
“All the lads have wanted to try to pay their respects to Mary and the Beal’s for everything they do for us!
“Myself and the rest of the guys send our condolences to all the Beal family and just hope we can get the win for Mary this week.
Johnson admits there are plenty of positives to take from last week’s defeat at league leaders Preston.
The fly-half admits the first emotion following the 24-18 defeat was disappointment, but the bonus point gained could prove valuable come the end of the season.
“This week is big for us, obviously a lot of disappointment from last week.
“But we also have a lot of positives.
“Our defence is ruthless we defended for long periods of the game on Saturday.
“This week we just need to capitalise on our chances and make good decisions with ball in hand!
“We’re not playing for second place, we’re going for that top spot.
“Obviously Preston are doing well but only takes a slip up from them and we can be there ourselves.
