Elsewhere in the division last weekend, Ilkley lost 24-6 at home to Harrogate in a Yorkshire derby game; today’s visitors Kendal also lost at home by 32-15 to Wirral and Kirkby Lonsdale went down in a very close encounter against visitors Sandal by 14-12.
Pocklington were the fourth side to lose at home last week when visitors Morley grabbed their first win of the season with a 20-18 victory and in the top of the table clash at Preston the ‘Hoppers beat previously unbeaten Lymm by 19-13. The Rossendale v Billingham fixture was ‘snowed off’, early signs of a possible bad winter.
This means that the top three are unchanged but that Hull, although still third, are only three points behind Lymm who are on 46 points with ‘Hoppers on 51. Down in the nether regions there is only one change with Morley bottom and Pocklington going one point ahead of Birkenhead Park on 10 points.
As the season nears the half-way point there is now a definite divisional divide with the first four sides having between 51 and 40 points, the next seven sides having between 35 and 21 points and the bottom three all below 10 points.
Today’s top games in my opinion are Lymm v Harrogate where second play fourth, Wirral v Kirkby Lonsdale where sixth play eighth and Sandal v Rossendale where an improving home side are eleventh and a below par Rossendale are seventh, with only four league points separating them.
