1st Team, Home

Our history with Harrogate

The first-ever meeting between the two clubs was on April 11th 2000 when Hull were playing in North East Division Two and Harrogate were in the third level of English rugby.
The clubs met in the first round of the Yorkshire Cup at Haworth Park and Harrogate fielded their Second XV known as Harrogate Georgians.
Harrogate won the game 25-8. The clubs meet again on April 10th 2007 when Hull were in North Division One, this time at Claro Road and Harrogate fielded their First XV and won 43-28.
The clubs met for the third time in the Yorkshire Cup semi-final at Harrogate’s new Ruddings Lane ground on April 15th 2017 and again the home side were victorious by 25-10. This was the last time our two sides played each other.
By 2009-10 Hull had been promoted into National Two North and in the six years we were in that division we played ‘Gate on ten occasions as follows;
10/10/09 – Harrogate 57 – Hull 11 (a game in which Hull were forced through injuries into fielding nine second team players)
30/1/10 – Hull 23 – Harrogate 12
11/9//10 – Hull 47 – Harrogate 27
7/5/11 – Harrogate 32 – Hull 22
24/9/11 – Hull 32 – Harrogate 22
25/2/12 – Harrogate 25 – Hull 34
5/10/13 – Hull 23 – Harrogate 30
18/1/14 – Harrogate 19 – Hull 18
27/9/14 – Hull 20 – Harrogate 20
10/1/15 – Harrogate 28 – Hull 10
To sum up, ‘Gate have won in all the 3 Yorkshire Cup games played.
‘Gate have won five N2N games and Hull have won 4 with 1 game drawn,
Now we are to meet again this season in the Northern Premier Division and ‘Gate have won 2 of their 3 league fixtures so far.
They began with a very narrow 21-20 away win at Billingham, followed by a convincing 44-21 home win over Yorkshire rivals Sandal.
Last Saturday they were heavily beaten 51-28 away to Wirral but managed to get a losing bonus point in the closing stages of the game.
They are at present in 7th position in the league table.
It is good to be crossing swords with some old friends once again.
